VIVA’s favourite events for the week!

It is already THURSDAY, on the first day of JUNE!

For those who are keen for more local markets action after seeing our events post last week, The Urban List has you covered with a really awesome summary of some of the best markets in Sydney.  Check out that list here.

The big talking point this week is of course Vivid Sydney.  Vivid is in full swing, and you can find ideas for a whole heap of stuff to see and do just by looking at the Vivid website (or look on VIVA to see all of them personalised and listed for you – oh, what a shameless plug).

If you have already seen everything in Vivid or if you are looking for something to do without fighting crowds, we have some ideas for you this week.

Thursday 1 June 2017 – Bitch by Wayne Tunks

One way of avoiding crowds while remaining social is to watch a live stage play.  Find a theatre near you, like The Depot Theatre in Marrickville, then settle into a cozy chair for a few hours while your mind is taken to a fictional universe of the playwright’s making.

The Depot Theatre is showing a dark comedy about suburban Australian family life.  I imagine it would be like The Castle, but grittier and hitting a couple more notes of realism.  Thursday 1 June is a preview night, with the play to run until 17 June 2017.

When: Wednesday 31 May to Saturday 17 June 2017

Where: The Depot Theatre, 142 Addison Road, Marrickville

Tickets are about $32 each.  You can buy tickets from their website here.

Friday 2 June 2017 – Hidden Sydney – The Glittering Mile

Two people in the events industry independently told me about the hidden gem called Hidden Sydney – The Glittering Mile this week.  Then, as if the universe is telling me that I must visit my first cabaret experience, this event pops up on my VIVA suggestions.

Unfortunately, I cannot go to see Hidden Sydney this Friday, but you can!

Immerse yourself in this journey through the years and meet entertainers that bring the Cross of the past back to life.  Experience Sydney’s night life in the Cross as through the 50s, 60s and 70s at The Nevada at The World Bar.

When: 25 May to 18 June 2017

Where: World Bar, 24 Bayswater Road, Potts Point

You can buy tickets for Hidden Sydney from their website here.
